Each year the Police Department gathers Christmas presents for the needy children of the Jersey Shore community.
PFC Marlin Angelo manages this program with the help of program coordinator, Mary Smith. Since 2000, through the support of area businesses and residents, this Progam has been able to help families provide Christmas presents to their children. The Christmas Program encompasses any child under the age of 15, living in Jersey Shore Borough, Porter Townshp or Nippenose Township.
Parents can come to the Police Department and speak with Mary Smith. Mary will ask them “If your child were sitting on Santa’s lap what would he or she want”. From there a list is compiled. The gifts are purchased and wrapped with care and delivered on the morning of the 24th by police officers and Santa.
Last year the Police Department provided over 500 wrapped gifts to more than 45 families with donations exceeding $13,000.
If you know of any families, or need help yourself, or if you would like to make a donation contract the police department of 570-398-2146. Checks can be made out to F.O.P Lodge #79.
